Welcome to Brightside Dental Care!
Here at Brightside, we take a real-people approach to dentistry. Our practices were built on personal relationships and the happy healthy smiles of satisfied patients. We want you to know, from the moment you walk through the door, that this is going to be a different kind of dental experience.
As patients ourselves, (complete with cavities, phobias and anxious children) we know that going to the dentist can sometimes be overwhelming. We’ve made it our priority to understand the concerns of real patients, so that we can make the entire experience as simple and enjoyable as possible. We focus on friendliness and creating an environment where you can feel comfortable asking questions and working with our dental team to make the decisions that are right for you and your family.
Help us change the way people think of dentistry. We’d love to get to know you and your family. Connect with us on Facebook, tour our website, or book an appointment today!
Dr. Michael Haimanot, Dentist
Michael was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A prairie boy at heart, Michael moved to Brandon, Manitoba to practice dentistry after graduating from the University of British Columbia, College of Dentistry. Michael loves bowling, playing ultimate frisbee and basketball, and cheering on the Toronto Raptors. When Michael is out of the office and not playing sports, you can find him with his nose in a good book. He loves getting to know his patients and giving them confident smiles for years to come.
Dr. Scott Mather, Dentist
Scott has been a familiar face at Brightside since 2008. He started at our Portage office right after graduating from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry. He’s gone on to join Larry as a founding partner in a new company that oversees the growth of Brightside.
Scott’s enthusiasm for teaching has made him an excellent mentor for onboarding new dentists. Scott has endless energy and when he doesn’t have a dental instrument in his hand, you can find Scott renovating or planning his next construction project. He also loves golfing, fishing and snowboarding. Most weekends, though, you can find him wakeboarding at Clear Lake.
Dr. Lauren Davies, Dentist
Lauren was born and raised in the Wheat City. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry, she returned to her hometown of Brandon, where she began practicing dentistry. Lauren’s friendly smile and gentle disposition has made her popular among patients. When she’s not sculpting fillings, she’s creating memories at home with her children and husband. Lauren loves family vacations, and spending time at Clear Lake whenever she can.
Portage & Gladstone
Dr. Larry Cogar, Dentist
Larry is the original dentist of Brightside Dental Care. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry, he opened the first practice in Portage with his wife Della. Together they successfully grew the single-dentist practice into thriving offices, filled with friends, family, and incredible staff. Since slowing down from clinical practice, Larry enjoys his role as a founding partner with Scott, focusing on Brightside’s growth.
When Larry takes his dental mask off, you can find him relaxing at Lake of the Woods. There’s nothing he likes more than mornings on the deck with a cup of coffee and a good book. Larry’s an avid salmon and walleye fisherman, and an amazing cook. He also barbecues year round; rain or shine, in -30 temperatures, and even during snowstorms.
Dr. Maria Mikos, Dentist
Maria is an exciting addition to the Brightside team. She graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry, and has been a part of Brightside ever since. Maria’s vibrant smile and pleasant demeanor makes her popular with patients. If you can’t find her in the office, you can find her at the lake, jet skiing, or fishing. Maria has a drive and passion, whether it’s snowboarding in the mountains, or touring Peru on a dental mission, she’s always looking for her next adventure.
Dr. Gord Cogar, Dentist
Gord, Larry’s brother, shares the Cogar passion for dentistry. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry, he moved to Gladstone and quickly gained a reputation for his friendly chairside manner. When he’s not sitting in his dental chair, you can find him cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Jets, along with all the other sports teams he follows. Gord is a gentleman farmer, who loves spending time with his family, and he may just be the only man left who still uses a pocket watch.
Drew Trapp, Denturist
Drew, who now resides in Headingley, has been making dentures in south central and western Manitoba since 1981. Drew and his wife Jackie raised their family in Portage la Prairie, where he was involved with local hockey, and a member of the karate club for 25 years. He has a friendly disposition and a great storyteller. When Drew is not in the office you can find him exploring the open road on his motorcycle.
